Karen Kendall PhD, CSEP-CEP, CAT(C), CSCS, ESSAM AEP

Karen has relocated back to Canada after spending 5 years working abroad in Brisbane Australia at the Queensland University of Technology.  She held both academic and clinical roles within the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences and the QUT Health Clinics.  Karen holds the certifications of Certified Exercise Physiologist (CAN), Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AUS), Certified Athletic Therapist (CAN), and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (USA).   

Karen has completed PhD in Exercise Rehabilitation for Non-specific Low Back Pain from the University of Calgary in 2012.  She has presented her research nationally and internationally at conferences including the World Congress of Low Back and Pelvic Pain.  She has developed and facilitated many workshops focusing on exercise for musculoskeletal rehabilitation.  In addition to her academic work, she has over 15 years of professional experience working as an Exercise Physiologist and Athletic Therapist specializing on musculoskeletal injury prevention, rehabilitation, and sport performance. 

Part 1: Clinical Assessment in MSK/Neurological Conditions: An Evidence Based Review of CUrrent Protocols

This seminar will briefly review the principle components of clinical assessment and then provide a comprehensive review of various current protocols that can be used in the management of musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

- 90-120 minutes including a Q & A session

Part 2: Implementing Assessment into the Management of MSK/Neurological Conditions 

This seminar will present an evidence based approach to the selection and use of assessment protocols in the management of musculoskeletal and neuroligical conditions. The evidence based approach will then be the framework from which the case studies will be discussed in the subsequent seminars. Participants will be encouraged to choose and complete an assessment strategy for one of the MSK case study conditions as a follow up learning activity and pre-seminar preparation.

- 60-90 minutes including a Q & A session

Part 3: Case Studies in MSK Conditions -PFPs, Frozen Shoulder Contracture Syndrome, Hip Osteoarthritis 

Using the evidence based approach that was presented in seminar 2, an assessment strategy will be presented for each of the listed MSK conditions. Participants will be encouraged to choose and complete an assessment strategy for one of the Neuro case study conditions as a follow-up learning activity and pre-seminar preparation.

Part 4: Case Studies in Neurological Conditions - Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke 

Using the evidence based approach that was presented in seminar 2, an assessment strategy will be presented for each of th elisted Neuro conditions.
