CSEP Summer Student Series: Top Tips for Preparing to Present Online

Jennifer Williams and Michelle Ogrodnik are Ph.D. candidates at McMaster University in the Kinesiology department, working under the supervision of Dr. Maureen MacDonald and Jennifer Heisz, respectively.

Both Michelle and Jennifer are a part of the Paul R. MacPherson Institute for Leadership, Innovation, and Excellence in Teaching at McMaster University, which is supporting Faculty in the transition of courses to online learning for the Fall. Michelle presented at a highlighted symposium at CSEP 2019 on “Just the Facts Please: Effective Science Communication in an Age of Scienciness” and brings diverse perspectives on engaging your audience in research and teaching talks. Jennifer is the Communications Director with the CSEP Student Committee and bring perspectives on developing and delivering your student presentations for CSEP 2020.

1.     Describe key ways to design your presentation to captivate all learners

2.     Reflect on the importance of tailoring your presentation to your audience

3.     Identify methods to engage learners synchronously and asynchronously

4.     Learn tools for developing an asynchronous recording of your research presentation for CSEP 2020
