The most effective exercise prescription won’t work unless you do it. For the millions of Canadians who live with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, sticking with an exercise program is not easy. How can we, as exercise professionals, facilitate exercise adherence in this population?

  • In this talk, practical strategies and techniques will be shared that have been designed and tested specifically for fitness professionals to use with people living with diabetes.

  • Key elements of creating a clinical exercise practice will be covered, including how to succeed in the business.

Exercise and Depression – Madelaine Gierc, PhD, University of British Columbia

Exercise is now recommended as a first-line monotherapy for mild-moderate depressive symptoms. Despite this, exercise is rarely presented to people as a treatment option. This presentation will provide an overview of research on exercise-based treatment for depression, practical tips on how to support clients with depression, and an overview of upcoming training opportunities with CSEP.
